The birth of virtual pets

How many of us went mad for these? Created in Japan in 1996 these little virtual pets by Bandai sold in their millions worldwide. I played iPet the other day and I think on balance I prefer the old fashioned Tamagotchi. The iPet was really dull after about 10 minutes.

They still haven't come up with a virtual pet to better it. Some distinctly over the top websites out there though for the obsessive collectors:

I frickin' loved these! I had Pikachu one that doubled as a pedometer and you had to walk around to feed him - until my mate figured out you could just shake it :s
